Hep C 101 is a video and podcast series on the basics of hepatitis C, created by the BC Hepatitis Network (back when we were known as Pacific Hep C!). In eight short, conversational episodes, Daryl–a peer navigator who has had hep C–and Kerri aim to share the “what you need to know” about the hepatitis C virus.
Daryl and Kerri introduce what we’ll cover in our new series, Hep C 101!
Have you heard of hepatitis C but really don’t know exactly what it is? You’re far from the first to ask!
Learn the basics of the hep C virus, and what happens initially after the virus enters the body.
How do you know if you have chronic hep C? In this episode, Daryl and Kerri discuss the different types of tests for hepatitis C, how hep C tests are done, and how to get tested.
Did you know hep C is usually curable? Treatment has also come a long, LONG way from what it used to be! Learn the answers to some common questions people have about starting treatment.
Everyone’s experience living with hepatitis C and its symptoms will be different. But what are some of the things that are commonly experienced by people living with chronic hep C?
Stigma is something many people with hepatitis C face–and it makes it hard to talk about having hep C.
In this episode, we discuss what stigma is, how it affects people, and what can be done to address and decrease stigma.
Extra-hepati-what? More than just a mouthful to say, extra-hepatic manifestations are when the hepatitis C virus causes health issues beyond the liver–and there are many problems that can be linked back to hep C!
In this episode, we talk harm reduction as it relates to people who use drugs with Jessica Lamb, a peer worker based in Kimberley, BC. What is harm reduction? How do peers support harm reduction? Where can people find resources, services, and supplies? Recorded in June 2020, we also discuss harm reduction in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
So your hepatitis C is cured–now what? In this final (for now!) episode of Hep C 101, we learn about what you can expect once your hep C has been successfully been treated!
